BASF to buy Bayer's seed assets for billions

It's one of those things that happens when people get married - you merge households and find new homes for things you don't necessarily want to have in your future. The Bayer-Monsanto acquisition is just the catalyst for Bayer selling most of their seed assets to BASF in a $7 billion deal.

So who benefits from this? Looks like it might be a rare win-win situation where Bayer unloads a side of their business they don't plan on focusing on in the future once they acquire Monsanto, and BASF moves beyond chemicals into seeds and builds on other recent expansions like gene-editing technology, to further advance the seed business.
